A Swiss inventor, Mr. Roger Perrinjaquet invents an entirely new type of kitchen appliance. On 6 March 1950 he applies for a patent for an appareil ménager portatif (hand-held kitchen appliance). The application describes the world's first stick (or wand) mixer. He calls the new appliance bamix, an abbreviation of the French battre et mixer (beat and mix).
